Cheery Littlebottom

Overview

The L-Space reference follows Cheery Littlebottom from alchemical training into the Ankh-Morpork City Watch. Her first forensic workspace is an old privy, but her investigations earn Vimes’s confidence and better support. She treats gold as a chemical substance rather than an irresistible treasure, bringing a scientific outlook to a force that needs practical ways to examine crimes.

Friendship with Angua helps Cheery express her identity openly as a female dwarf, challenging restrictive expectations within dwarfish society. That choice provokes hostility when she returns to Überwald, while encouraging other dwarfs to make similar changes. Her professional career also advances: Jingo credits her with proposing pigeon communication for officers, and by Thud! she has become a sergeant.
