Bone folder
Overview
A folder is a slender implement with smooth edges and unequal ends, usually bone but also made in other materials. The museum distinguishes a printer’s boxwood folder for folding sheets from the bookbinder’s bone tool.
Bookbinders use it to flatten cover corners and edges and press the spine crease. The account documents multiple forms and measured examples; its general description is not a manufacturing history or an attribution of national origin.
