Overview
The Nation describes its United States community as descending mainly from the South Piegan, one of four historical Blackfoot groupings it distinguishes. The National Park Service likewise separates Blackfoot in Canada from Blackfeet in the United States and places the tribal community in northern Montana.
The Nation's cultural account describes a historical way of life that followed the buffalo, together with ongoing relationships to its lands. Those historical Plains livelihoods are not a description of all present-day Blackfeet life.
Contemporary celebrations named by the Nation include North American Indian Days and Heart Butte Indian Days, with dance, singing, drumming, stick games and rodeo. Blackfeet Community College describes integrating Blackfeet language and culture with higher education, employment preparation and continuing education.
History & identity
The Nation presents its history through South Piegan ancestry within broader Blackfoot relationships. Its statement of very long habitation is an attributed community claim, not independently dated in these sources.
