Overview
Bafut Palace describes itself as a community-owned institution and headquarters of the Bafut Kingdom in Cameroon’s Northwest Region. Its stated mission connects heritage conservation, environmental protection, education, youth mentorship and tolerance. It also describes diaspora chapters sustaining community ties; this institutional account does not imply that every Bafut person follows one practice or lives near the palace.
Cameroon’s 2018 submission to UNESCO’s Tentative List presents the chiefdom as part of a living Grassfields culture, with local customs supporting heritage protection. It describes a reconstructed site retaining earlier spatial organisation. Tentative listing is a nomination-stage record, not World Heritage inscription or permission to recreate sacred architecture and knowledge.
