An elongated dark wooden object with a hole near one end and closely incised angular patterns, shown complete with a scale.
Wooden bullroarer catalogued as Arrernte/Aranda. Its original label gives 1894; the museum acquired it in 1976. The record marks find circumstances as uncertain, and identifies no individual maker or manufacture date. One catalogued object, not a depiction of the community. Card compressed; article image unaltered.
Overview
The Central Land Council identifies the Alice Springs claim as Arrernte. Claimants testified to continued resource gathering, country care and land decisions; native title was recognised in May 2000.
Native title holders established Lhere Artepe as their prescribed body corporate for future town land-use decisions. This local claim does not cover every Arrernte community.
IAD Press is the publishing arm of the Aboriginal community-controlled Institute for Aboriginal Development. Its language guides, oral histories and cultural publications serve Aboriginal communities generally.
An Eastern and Central Arrernte online wordlist launched in Mparntwe in November 2019. Most recorded speakers also contributed to its design. Elders and linguists had developed spelling conventions during the 1990s.
