Antigoon and Brabo

Overview

Antwerp’s municipal retelling names Silvius Brabo as the giant Antigoon’s conqueror. Throwing the defeated giant’s hand into the Scheldt explains handwerpen, the city’s legendary name. It also recounts a Brabant naming association. These are legendary explanations, not established etymologies.

The city’s heritage account associates Druoon Antigoon with Het Steen. Its separate Lange Wapper association does not establish a shared episode. These witnesses provide no toll-taking narrative.
